C-2 Greyhound: 50th Anniversary Celebration @ Pax River

Fifty years of hauling the mail, pax and cargo.  Tom Cruise never starred in a movie about the COD and even when it had a bit part in a blockbuster film, the filmakers still used its sexy older sibling for the external shot (Hunt for Red October).  Yet the true value of the COD, especially as represented by the C-2 can never be overstated.  ‘Amateurs study tactics – professionals, logistics’ so the saying goes and therein lies the value of this most humble of aircraft to find their way to the carrier’s deck.  And now, if you are within driving distance of NAS Patuxent River, MD, you have an opportunity to get up close and personal with a C-2:

The Patuxent River Naval Air Museum is being joined by PMA-231, the E-2/C-2 community at our next “MEET THE AIRPLANE!”.  The C-2 Greyhound is celebrating 50 years of Special Deliveries and we will be meeting the C-2 on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum in Southern Maryland.  The museum will be free! Kids can play games, and if you donate nonperishable food items, you will earn free flight time in the Flight Simulators.  At 2 p.m., C-2 aircrew and PMA-231 folks will talk about the C-2 and its interesting missions, like transporting a baby whale, supplies for natural disasters, special operation forces and movie stars (not together, of course).  Also, there will be a raffle for an art print by Hank Caruso and food available for purchase.

This is a great opportunity for your family and friends to gain a better understanding of what the C-2 Greyhound and PMA-232 are all about here at NAS Patuxent River and around the world. Check out the attached flyer for more information.
